Las Vegas - A Surprise or Two!

OK. This is a simple thing. Roy and Debbie are getting married in Vegas, they think they will be on their own, but we are going to surprise them and all turn up for the wedding. But how to make it a surprise?
Kim and Trevor had, coincidentally, already booked a holiday to Vegas for that year but the dates were different. This was a breeze. Dates changed, holiday re-arranged, nice and easy does it.

Now for the tricky bit. We need to tell Mum (Eileen) that she will be going to Vegas for the wedding but she must not let Roy or Debbie know. Miracles sometimes do happen. Despite coming VERY close on a number of occasions, Ma managed to keep the surprise going and not let the cat out of the bag.
All we have to do now is turn up in Vegas and surprise Roy and Debbie - but how? The two masterminds Vikki and Rachel hatched a cunning plan:

Kim and Trevor (already in Vegas) would "accidentally" bump in to Roy and Debbie and arrange to meet them for a meal the night after we arrive. We would all turn up at the restaurant early, don some fake glasses and noses so that Roy and Debbie wouldn't recognise us when they came in, and then suddenly whip them off and shout "SURPRISE!" Brilliant - nah - I thought it was crap too, but at least it was a plan.

What we didn't expect was for our old friend fate to roll some snake eyes.

We arrived at the hotel tired and shagged out from the long flight. Somehow the hotel had managed to "lose" one of our bookings and we were a room short. It's not easy to sort something like this out when there are a lot of people all trying to shout at the same time, so we decided to go to the rooms we had, un-pack, and then I would come back (on my own) and sort it out.
"OK - Let's get the lift" I said. The lift (sorry, elevator, no - I'm not sorry - LIFT) arrived, I was about to get in when I realised that the other seven people had somehow got stuck in the foyer.

Trudge, trudge, trudge (I was very tired) back to find out what was going on, nothing, so back to the lifts again (this time all of us). Lift arrives, we press the button for the 24th floor and when the doors open Vikki screams, frightening the life out of the young lad in the lift with us, and presses the close button. I couldn't see anything and couldn't understand why Vikki was screaming so much, but, you've guessed it. As our lift doors were opening, the lift doors diagonally opposite from us were closing - with Roy and Deb inside! Vikki at this point has said the "F" word so many times she is now in the Guinness book of World Records. We decide to get out and leg it to our rooms in the vain hope that we can get away and Roy and Debbie will believe they were imagining things. We just weren't quick enough. By the time we worked out that we had gone the wrong way, turned round, legged it back to the first of our rooms and tried to jam ourselves (and 10 suitcases) through the door, Roy and Debbie were already at the corner of the corridor, wide mouthed in wonder, watching us.

Needless to say there were a few tears but I reckon that this was a fabulous ending to the "surprise". Not only were Roy and Debbie totally gobsmacked but the tables were turned on us too!

The wedding was brilliant too (and we sorted out the missing room). As for the "disguises" - we wore them after the wedding, as you can see from the photos. I think you'll agree that they weren't much of a disguise!
